IV B.Tech. I Semester Regular Examinations

.doc  Refrigeration and Air Conditioning 4-1 Set-2 (K).doc (Size: 382 KB / Downloads: 2)

Discuss the common considerations for humidification of air in air conditioning. [8] (Unit-VIII, Topic No. 8.1)
Differentiate clearly between open and closed air – refrigeration systems. [7] (Unit-I, Topic No. 1.3)
Write the advantages and disadvantages of vapour refrigeration system over air refrigeration system. [7]
(Unit-II, Topic No. 2.1)
A refrigerator using CO2 as refrigerant works between the temperatures 17.5°C and – 17.5°C. The CO2 leaves
the compressor at 30°C. The gas is completely condensed but there is no under cooling. Find theoretical
COP.[8] (Unit-II, Topic No. 2.3)
Explain the effect of low suction pressure and high delivery pressure on the volumetric efficiency of a
reciprocating compressor. [8] (Unit-III, Topic No. 3.1)
With a neat sketch explain the working of Flooded evaporator. [7] (Unit-III, Topic No. 3.3)
With a neat sketch explain the working of ammonia water absorption refrigeration system. [7]
(Unit-IV, Topic No. 4.2)
What modifications are necessary in a simple absorption refrigeration system in order to improve the performance
of the system. [8] (Unit-IV, Topic No. 4.1)
Explain, with the help of a neat sketch, the working of a steam jet refrigeration system. [7] (Unit-V, Topic No. 5.1)
The equilibrium concentration of steam jet refrigeration system is 40 parts per 1000 parts of water. The water is
supplied to the system with a rate of 25000 Kg/hr. The salt concentration in the supply water is 20 parts per 1000
parts. Find the rate of supply of cold water. [8] (Unit-V, Topic No. 5.1)

6.

Atmospheric air at 101.3 kPa, 22°C, 65 percent relative humidity, is to be used to cool a transformer. The transformer
dissipates heat at a rate of 230 MJ/h. To increase the cooling effect per kilogram of dry air and thereby decrease the
amount of air needed, the air is first adiabatically saturated with water and then passed over the transformer. If the
temperature of the air leaving the transformer should not exceed 32°C, determine the required flow rate in kilograms
of dry air per hour both with and without the adiabatic saturation of the incoming air. [15] (Unit-VI, Topic No. 6.1)

Explain about Psychrometry chart. [8] (Unit-VI, Topic No. 6.1)
With a neat sketch explain about summer air conditioning system. [7] (Unit-VIII, Topic No. 8.1)
With a neat sketch explain the working of pan and coil type humidifier. [8] (Unit-VIII, Topic No. 8.1)
With a neat sketch explain the working of spray type dehumidifier. [7] (Unit-VIII, Topic No. 8.1)
